Abstract

The study investigated the role of knowledge management in supporting social innovation within non-profit organizations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The focus was specifically on the Hajj and Umrah sector in Mecca and was driven by the strategic directions of Saudi Vision 2030 toward a knowledge-based economy and the enhancement of social impact. To achieve its goals, the study adopted a descriptive approach, utilizing a multiple-case study design alongside focus groups. The primary objectives were to analyze the current state of knowledge management, identify the key challenges hindering its effective utilization in social innovation, and develop a comprehensive, actionable implementation plan. The findings revealed that knowledge management plays a strong role in knowledge transfer, sharing, exchange, and application. All these aspects significantly contribute to the generation of innovative social solutions. Conversely, the study identified critical challenges. These included inadequate technical infrastructure, a lack of institutional integration, and a weak knowledge-sharing culture. The study concluded with a proposed plan that encompasses establishing an institutional framework for knowledge management, organizing knowledge assets, and integrating knowledge management processes into the various stages of social innovation. The plan further incorporates indicators to measure both performance and social impact. This aims to enhance the efficiency of non-profit organizations and boost their capacity to achieve sustainable development and social entrepreneurship.
