The article analyzes the rapid development of publishing and reading culture in Saudi Arabia, highlighting its transformation into one of the most dynamic book markets in recent years. This growth is driven by strong purchasing power, rising reading rates, and institutional support, particularly through the establishment of the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission in 2020. The Commission acts as a catalyst rather than a competitor, launching initiatives, such as publishing accelerators, digital publishing programs, and cultural partnerships in public spaces.
The article shows that reading habits are expanding with a significant proportion of Saudis integrating reading into their daily or weekly routines, and a notable preference for digital formats. It further emphasizes the rise of Saudi literature from its early beginnings in the 20th century to contemporary success, including popular authors like Osamah Almuslim, whose works appeal to younger audiences.
